Few films begin with instructions on how they should be viewed. Driller Killer begins not with a title screen, but with the modal command: THIS FILM SHOULD BE PLAYED LOUD. The story follows a sexually repressed artist who begins to go crazy, with a drill! It's pretty impossible not to watch this movie without reading it's psychoanalytic messages. If 'Men, Women, and Chainsaws' had been written before Driller Killer was made, I would say that Abel Ferrara (who directed and starred in the film) had made the film by the book. Aside from that, there is a weird art punk band and great footage of late 70's, NYC warehouse living.
I wish there was a repertory showing of Driller Killer in NYC for Halloween. Fortunately, it was banned in so many countries, that it's in the public domain so you can watch it free on the internet! Here is a low quality version:

It's been a slow month of working too much, but Halloween is almost here. I have to work that night, but I've been telling people I am going to dress as a tiger with a sword. I hope that happens. To get everyone motivated, I'm joining the frenzy with some of my favorite moments in horror. Today's scary surprise is:
Someone loaned me this movie to me when it came out, and it's pretty amazing. The soundtrack is awesome, as is Guitar Wolf and the Greasers who survive the zombie attack, the plot seems 'Night of the Comet' inspired, and (bonus!) there is a love story about a transgendered lady between zombie killing.

Inkstuds has started soliciting cartoonists to do mixtape podcasts for their blog. I have trouble finding music podcasts I like (really, the only one I listen to is MRR Radio), so I was psyched to find what these folks put together. Check out this weeks here: Inkstuds Mixtape
The archives include ones from Jaime and Gilbert Hernandez and Tom Neely, who I met this weekend at SPX, and other people!
