rating: 5 of 5 starsThis is only a 150 pages or so, but it is one of the best sci-fi books I have ever read. The basic premise is that the aliens came and went leaving only a space with a bunch of alien technology, diseases, and physical properties that defy all of our scientific ideas. These deadly things are given slang names by people who sneak in to steal technologies to sell. The film Stalker is based on it, and I think the best mysterious phenomena in the show Lost was lifted from it (e.g. the smoke monster is really close to the mosquito mange... and let's not forget the golden ball... or did the writers of lost forget that room... hmmmmmmm...
The conversation about a roadside picnic is great. Looking for a really original, well-written sci-fi book by some soviets? Go grab this at the library! Reading Rainbow!

We're out of room on podomatic. The sad thing is I have server space, but could never figure out how to write the xml to syndicate the podcast. Well, we'll do shows sporadically, maybe delete the old ones to make room for the new. I think it had a good run, but I need a hobby that's not in front of the computer. Maybe a real radio show again?
This week Zane did some sets with the theme of violence and body parts. Starts out with skulls, moves to skeletons, cannibalism, and dismemberment. Sounds terrible! Yuck!
